Frequently Asked Questions

Below are a list of common questions we are asked at the Florida Ear and Balance Center. Please use the links below to skip directly to the question you wish to learn more about.

Why Do I Have a Problem With My Vision?

The main job of the inner ear is to keep the eyes focused as the head moves. When there is an inner ear abnormality, the eyes will make a fine motion (nystagmus) that causes blurry vision difficulty focusing.

Is Dizziness Associated With Fatigue?

Yes. Dizziness requires increased concentration and increased rigidity of the muscles to maintain balance. Most people suffering from dizziness find that they become increasingly fatigued as they go through the normal activities of daily living.

If a Particular Movement Makes Me Dizzy, Should I Avoid It?

That depends. Your doctor will determine what is causing your dizziness. Then your treatment will be tailored to your needs. Your instructions may include positions that make you dizzy (habituation). Alternatively, you may be taught how to avoid the symptoms (compensation).

Is Dizziness a Sign of a Brain Tumor or Stroke?

Dizziness is usually a sign of inner ear dysfunction. Rarely, it can represent a tumor or injury to the brain. These problems almost always have other associated symptoms.

What are Some Causes of Dizziness?

Dizziness can be caused by many different ailments. These may include: Basilar Artery Migraine, Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo, Ménière's Disease, and Labyrinthitis. To learn more about these conditions, please visit our Causes of Dizziness page.
